Bowls is Bowls, the organisation established to encourage all bowls organisations and bowlers of all ages, creeds, colour and abilities to work together, is delighted to announce that Scotland’s most decorated athlete, record breaking six-time World Indoor Singles Champion Bowling legend and a 5 x Commonwealth Games Gold medal winner, Alex ‘Tattie’ Marshall MBE, has agreed to become its first regional Ambassador.

The Ambassador role will see Marshall promote the Bowls is Bowls brand of Bowls being an active and fully inclusive sport for everyone within the community, to clubs, associations, care homes and hospitals within Scotland and the regions. Marshall plays at Gifford Bowls Club (outdoor) and East Lothian Indoor Bowling Club, having begun bowling at the age of eight years old, and first represented Scotland in 1988. He was awarded an MBE in the 2007 New Years Honours List for his Services to Sport. In 2020 he was selected for the World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Australia and has recently been seen competing at the World Indoor Bowls Championships staged at Potters Leisure Resort in Great Yarmouth and seen on BBCTV.

This latest announcement is a further part of Bowls is Bowls on-going commitment to the promotion and development of the sport of Bowls, and it is hoped that further additions to the ambassadorial team, who will be responsible for developing and promoting the Bowls is Bowls brand in other regions throughout the UK will be announced soon.

Marshall, alongside another legendary medal-winning member of England’s Commonwealth Games bowls team, David Bolt ‘Bolty’, was present at the launch day of the Bowls is Bowls concept in Daventry, Northamptonshire in 2019. It was here where Bowls is Bowls announced its plans, delivering a clear statement of the organisations intention to bring all forms of Bowls at all levels and platforms together to help promote the sport, whilst demonstrating the openness and limitless opportunities for the sport to reach out into communities, via hospitals, care home facilities, youth clubs and other related areas.

Speaking about the appointment of Marshall as Ambassador for Bowls is Bowls, Mark Courtney, Finance Director of the Professional Bowls Corporation Ltd., whose brainchild Bowls is Bowls is, stated, “To have someone of Alex’s world-class stature and high-ranked reputation within the game on-board underlines our commitment to developing a platform and programme from which we can promote and hopefully broaden our reach into communities throughout the UK, to promote Bowls as a fully-inclusive, accessible and safe activity and sport for all.
